VACCINATION AND DE-WORMING SCHEDULE FOR FOALS

  • De-worm every 30 days starting at 1 month of age and ending at six months of age.  Then de-worm every 60 to 90 days.  We recommend a product in the Benzimidazole group of anthelmintic, such as Panacur, or Pyrantal group such as Strongid P, for foals less than 6 months of age.  After 6 months of age most products are safe to give weanlings who have been on a regular de-worming schedule.

  • First vaccinations at the age of 3 months should include Sleeping Sickness, Tetanus, and West Nile Virus.

  • Second vaccinations at the age of 4 months should booster the Sleeping Sickness, Tetanus, and West Nile Virus.

  • West Nile Virus vaccinations may possibly need to be given a 3rd and 4th time depending on the month the foal was born.

  • Influenza and Rhino should be given at 8-9 months of age and again at 11-12 months of age.

  • Streptococcus Equi (Strangles) can be given any time after 6 months of age.  This vaccine requires the first dose given followed with a booster 4-6 weeks later. The only product we would recommend is the intra-nasal vaccine.

Repeat Sleeping Sickness, Tetanus, Rhino, Influenza, and West Nile Virus at 12 months of age.
