Flint
Flint is a 7 month old castrated male yellow Labrador retriever. He is a high energy dog with no “off” button for the play mode. He presented on a Monday evening with intermittent vomiting, duration three hours. He was depressed with normal vital signs. No palpable abdominal abnormalities. No radiographs were performed due to the short duration. Blood work showed no significant abnormalities. He was administered a coating agent and received an anti-emetic injection. He re-presented Tuesday morning with no change. At this time, there was a palpable abdominal mass. Radiographs revealed a spherical density inconsistent with normal anatomy.
An exploratory laparotomy was performed and a foreign object was identified in the jejunum (part of the small intestines.) An enterotomy was performed and the following object was removed. By Wednesday afternoon, he was eating well and was released from the hospital Thursday.
