Why should we care about oral health?

Bad breath, yellow/brown crust, bleeding gums, subdued behavior, dropping food out of the mouth.  These are all signs of periodontal disease.

The prevention of dental disease is a multi-faceted approach involving both the veterinarian and you as the pet owner.  Veterinarians help treat and control the disease through routine dental prophylaxis and, if needed, corrective measures to treat the disease already present.  You, as the owner, can best prevent the continued buildup of plague and eventually tartar and decay at home.  At-home preventative measures are very important to dental disease control as plaque and bacteria can begin to reform in the mouth as early as 12 hrs. following your Veterinarian's prophylactic dental cleaning.  Preventative measures are classified into a "Good", "Better", "Best" system and are explained on their respective tabs...
